Tell Yourself The Truth
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8
I love the message in the Casting Crowns song, “Voice of Truth.” In one part of the song, they sing about when David went up against Goliath and how the Giant laughed at David and said, “Boy, you'll never win!" "You'll never win!"
But then they sing the chorus:
But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story.
The Voice of Truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the Voice of Truth says, "This is for My glory."
Out of all the voices calling out to me,
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth.
That’s what we have to do, beloved. We have to tell ourselves the truth!
All around us are LIES! The media lies to us, and so does Hollywood, the marketers, and even some religious leaders.
Sometimes, we even lie to ourselves! This is why it’s crucial that we learn the truth, know the truth, and tell the truth. This begins in our minds. Notice what Paul told the Philippians to think about. The first one he mentions are things that are true.
If you want to be set free by the truth, you’ve got to know the truth. And truth is found in God’s Word. John 17:17 says, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Resist the lies today. Fill your mind with the Truth. And speak truth to yourself!
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Word. Help me today to read, believe, and walk in the Truth. Enable me to be discerning in what I see and hear, and help me to know the difference between lies and the truth. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
