Questions for Jesus
“As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
Acts 9:3-6 NKJV
Saul never saw it coming. His trip was all about persecuting those who followed Jesus, but on the way, he met the Man himself. His life and ours would never be the same. This same Paul would be used incredibly by the Lord and end up writing a major portion of the New Testament.
Paul asked two essential questions during this sudden and brief encounter with Jesus. They are questions that every person should ask: “Who are You, Lord?” and “Lord, what do you want me to do?”
The first question deals with the Person of Jesus, while the second deals with His purposes for us.
The first question naturally leads to the second question. If He is Lord (and He is), then we need to find out what He wants us to do. Ephesians 2:10 assures us that He has already prepared good works for us to accomplish.
So, when was the last time you asked Him that second question?
Why don’t you do it right now?
Lord Jesus, thank you for saving me. I acknowledge that you are my Savior and Lord and submit to your Lordship in my life. What do you want me to do today? Please make it plain to me and help me to obey you immediately and completely. Thank you for the privilege of serving You. Amen.
