Blessings By The Truck Load
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. Psalm 68:19
We recently had gravel delivered to our church cemetery. As I saw the dump truck slowly dumping its load down the driveway to form a new layer of stone for cars and trucks to use, I couldn’t help but think of Psalm 68:19.
God loads up blessings every day, and then throughout the day, He pours them out on us. Think of it! The sun shines, the birds sing, oxygen is circulating, water is flowing, and life is going. We all enjoy these general blessings, or Common Grace, as the Theologians call it. But then there are those personal blessings. Your cup of coffee in your favorite mug, listening to your favorite music, wearing that warm soft sweater, eating that delicious breakfast. All of these are from the hand of a loving God.
The songwriter told us to Count Our Blessings, Name them One By One, but I’m not sure that’s possible. There are just too many! But let’s try. How about today, we try to notice all the blessings God sends us? And then, let’s thank Him for them.
Dear God, Help us to be aware of our blessings today. Open our eyes, ears, and minds to see just how much you load us down with your good gifts. And most of all, how You bless us with Yourself. Please help us to grow in our Thanksgiving. In Jesus’ Name, we pray, Amen.
